After you install the online release notes for a product
(the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s subsystem), you can view the release notes on
your screen.
Note: You can read the online release notes for most
products before installing the software. Refer to
the booklet in your CD-ROM case for more information.
- 2 -
If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from
the Help submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the
_g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) graphical browser for the online release notes.
Refer to the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) reference page for information on
options to this command.
If you do not have a graphics system, you can use the
_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s command. Refer to the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) reference page
for accessing the online release notes.

The Netscape SuiteSpot FastTrack Server requires a digitally
signed certificate to operate in secure mode. To obtain a
signed certificate you will need to submit a certificate
request form to a Certificate Authority, a third-party
organization that issues certificates. Silicon Graphics has
contracted with Verisign, Inc. and may contract with other
Certificate Authorities in the future.
A certificate consists of a ppppuuuubbbblllliiiicccc kkkkeeeeyyyy and a ddddiiiissssttttiiiinnnngggguuuuiiiisssshhhheeeedddd
nnnnaaaammmmeeee. During the certificate request process you will
generate a ppppuuuubbbblllliiiicccc kkkkeeeeyyyy////pppprrrriiiivvvvaaaatttteeee kkkkeeeeyyyy pair and you will choose a
distinguished name.
Note: You only need to generate one key pair. If you
generate another key after submitting a request to
Verisign, the keys will not match and you will
overwrite your previous key. You will then have to
resubmit the key request to Verisign
For a detailed description of distinguished names and the
certification process, access the URL:
https://www.verisign.com/netscape/index.html
The following items are the minimum required to complete a
certification request form and establish a Distinguished
Name:
Country = Two Letter Country Code (contact the Certificate Authority
for countries other than U.S.)
State = State/Province (do not abbreviate)
Organization = Business/Organization Name
Common Name = URL of the serve you are requesting a certificate for.
(Some Certificate Authorities may have additional requirements.)
- 3 -
Finally, the certificate request form will ask for the email
address of a valid Certificate Authority. A complete list
of valid Certificate Authorities can be found below. To
find out more about submitting a certificate request see the
section "Enabling SSL encryption" in the chapter
"Understanding encryption and SSL" of the FastTrack Admin
Guide. A webjumper called FasttrackAdminGuide exists to
take you to the book and is accessable on the Web Tools and
Applications Icon Catalog pages.
Once you have submitted the certificate request and any
additional documentation required by the Certificate
Authority, you can generally expect to receive a unique
digitally signed certificate in approximately three business
days. This allows for an approval process that will help
protect you, your organization, and the certificate
authority. You will receive your signed certificate by
electronic mail. You will need to establish adequate
precautions to maintain the integrity of the signed
certificate and your private key. To find out more about
how to install the certificate, see the section "Using
encryption and SSL" in the FastTrackAdminGuide which is
found in the Web Tools and Applications Icon Catalog pages.

1.4 _S_e_r_v_e_r__S_a_f_e_t_y
The Netscape SuiteSpot FastTrack Server allows a Netscape
Navigator or Netscape Communicator to authenticate the
server and subsequently encrypt any information between the
Netscape browser and the Netscape SuiteSpot FastTrack
Server. This allows secure communications across the
Internet. As a server owner, you should be responsible for
maintaining the integrity of the UNIX machine and operating
environment that your Netscape server products are using.
There are many sources to help you understand all of the
issues involved with "securing" the UNIX operating system
from unwanted intruders. Using a Netscape browser, you can
access the URL:
http://www.ripn.net:8082/nic/fyi/fyi8.txt
- 4 -
The document is the _S_i_t_e _S_e_c_u_r_i_t_y _H_a_n_d_b_o_o_k from Internic,
also known as RFC 2196 (which replaced RFC 1244) or the
Internet FYI8. It can serve as an introduction to the many
concepts related to computer system security. We provide
this information as a reference and do not attempt to
validate its legitimacy.
1.5 _W_e_b__S_e_r_v_i_c_e_s
If you are waiting for a certificate, you can begin to
design the information you want to serve, or expand the on-
line presence you may have already created.
With the Netscape Communicator included on your CDs, you can
access Netscape Communications' directory of information
about creating Web Services including HTML tutorials, CGI
programming, and image processing. Simply use the menu item
"Member Services" from the "Help" menu in the Netscape
Communicator software. Or you can use the URL:

services.html
